What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a fatal neurodegenerative disease that attacks motor neurons in the spinal cord, causing muscles to weaken and eventually paralyze.
This prohibits one from the ability to perform basic day-to-day tasks such as moving, grasping objects, speaking, swallowing, and breathing. There is currently no cure or known cause for the disease.

Our Innovative Solution

Our solution, RestALS, is a Bluetooth headrest that attaches to the back of wheelchairs, complete with rotation and tilting capabilities. The headrest would connect to EyeGaze, allowing the person to control the headrest and its movement on their own. The headrest would be able to rotate so the user can look around and tilt upwards when a user is reclined. Head and neck support would relieve pain and allow the person's head to move freely and with ease. Our solution is unique as it provides a range of motion that no other headrest provides while giving the user the ability to actually move the headrest on their own. No other solution exists that combines the comfort, neck support, and independence that our product promotes.
